PETAN joined key industry players at the official launch of the Nigerian Upstream Cost Optimization Program (NUCOP) which held this morning at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Towers in Abuja.
The NUCOP is an industry-wide initiative aimed at optimizing Nigeria’s upstream operating expenses through process enhancement and industry collaboration to ensure improved and sustainable profitability to all stakeholders.
PETAN Chairman, Mr. Nicolas Odinuwe led PETAN delegation comprising of PETAN Vice Chairman, Mr. Ranti Omole, Assistant Secretary, Mr. Daere Akobo and Ex-officio, Dr.Timi Austen-Peters to the event.
In his remarks, Mr. Odinuwe lauded the initiative and proposed mass vaccination for oil and gas workers involved in crew changes, who are put on quarantine before going offshore including other maritime personnel who come in contact with people from outside the country against the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic which has impacted cost of operations in the industry.
Key speakers, the Honorable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva and the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mr. Mele Kyari called for deeper collaboration between industry players in the bid to scrutinise the tax structure and security arrangement among other identified areas that needs to be harmonised to pull down cost of operations in the industry while awaiting the speedy passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) that will drive the much desired investment in the oil and gas sector.
Highlights of the event were a video presentation on the NUCOP and remarks by key industry players such as the Chairman, Senate Committee (Upstream), Senator Bassey Akpan, Chairman, House Committe, Upstream, Honorable Musa Sarkin Adar, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Engr. Simbi Wabote, Chairman, Oil Producers Trade Section (OPTS), Mr. Mike Sangster.
