PETAN SHINES AT DPR’s NATIONAL GAS EXPANSION PROGRAMME (NGEP) STAKEHOLDERS CONSULTATIVE FORUM

The Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN)’s Publicity Secretary, Dr Lucky Akhiwu and Financial Secretary, Mrs Edith Ekwaeke represented the association at the  Stakeholders Consultative Forum on the National Gas Expansion Programme (NGEP) organised by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources which held at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The objective of the programme is to reinforce and expand domestic gas supply and stimulate demand through the effective and efficient mobilization and utilisation of all available assets, resources and infrastructure in the country.

PETAN’s Financial Secretary, Mrs Edith Akwaeke pledged PETAN’s  support for the programme in areas of technical and entrepreneurial training of some of the proposed half a million engineers needed to drive the expansion nationwide.

Chairman of the programme, Engr. Ibrahim Muhammed noted that the NGEP was introduced to make gas the fuel of choice for domestic and industrial use in the country in line with the 2017 National Gas Policy which aims to develop Nigeria as an attractive, gas-based industrial nation, giving primary attention to meeting local gas demand requirements and developing a significant presence in international markets.

“Consequently, we want this programme to lead to improved gas supply to power, growth of gas-based industries to make domestic Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) penetration to alleviate the problems surrounding deregulation of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol and boost government’s revenue from the gas sub-sector”.

Highlight of the event was a showcase to demonstrate the various uses of LNG,  CNG and LPG for domestic and industrial uses.

Participants at the event included the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), the Nigeria Institute of Safety Professionals, Nigeria  Institute of Welders,  Nigeria Quality Infrastructure Forum, Nigerian Association of Energy Economics.

Others were the Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association, Oil and Gas Trainers Association of Nigeria  (OGTAN), Nigeria Foundaries Limited, Nigerian Association of Investors and the PayGas Company amongst others.
